Jim Courier reacted to Novak Djokovic shockingly snubbing his on-court interview after his fourth-round win at the 2025 Australian Open. The American was waiting to interview the seventh seed following his win over Jiri Lehecka. However, the Serb surprised the crowd by giving a short thank you message and leaving immediately.
Djokovic is looking to win an unprecedented 25th Major at the Australian Open. He has been in stunning form as well, making it to the quarterfinals dropping only two sets en route. He played the dynamic Jiri Lehecka in the fourth round, in what many expected to be a hard challenge for the Serb. However, he had all the answers to the Czech's questions and decimated him 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(4).
The 37-year-old headed for the on-court interview next but in a strange turn of events, the Serb took the mic from Jim Courier to say:
"Thank you very much for being here tonight. I appreciate your presence and your support and I'll see you next round. Thank you very much."
It should be noted that the Serb did stay back for a couple of minutes to sign autographs for fans on Rod Laver Arena before exiting to the player area.
While speaking to Eurosport about what went down, Jim Courier said that players have no obligation to give an interview and could opt out of it. He was also looking forward to the 24-time Major champion's press conference, where he could possibly address the issue.
“Maybe we’ll learn more about it in the press conference afterwards but he just didn’t feel like having a chat. I had no idea that was going to happen but there is no obligation for these players to do that. It’s an opportunity for them to talk to people in the stadium and the fans around the world. But a player can opt out.“
Djokovic will look to put this ordeal away as he faces one of his biggest rivals in tennis next.
