John McEnroe's ex-wife Tatum O’Neal gushes over their ‘beautiful daughter’ Emily, who credits her 'mom's closet' for inspiring her brand

John McEnroe is largely considered to be one of the best tennis players to have graced the courts in the history of the sport. Recently, the American’s ex-wife Tatum O'Neal shared a snap of the duo's daughter Emily.

In his career, McEnroe claimed seven major singles titles, and ten major doubles titles. He remains the only person since the inception of the ATP Rankings to have simultaneously held the World No.1 spot in both singles and doubles.

In 1986, the American got married to Academy Award winning actress, Tatum O'Neal. While the couple separated eight years later, they share three children together, Kevin, Sean, and Emily.

Recently, O’Neal shared a snap of the couple's daughter Emily on Instagram, with the caption,

“My beautiful daughter.”

Emily was quick to reply to the post, writing in the comments section,

“My brand is ‘mom’s closet'.”

Despite his busy schedule as one of the best tennis players in the world, John McEnroe’s daughter revealed that the American was always there as a parent when she was growing up. In an interview with the Daily Mail, Emily expressed her gratitude for her father making time for his ‘dad duties’ in the midst of his hectic life, saying,

‘Dad was a rock. He would get up at 7am, slice up grapefruit, make us breakfast and then always drove me to school. That’s one thing I will forever be grateful to him for. He did that week in, week out, no matter how busy his life was.”

While her father found immense success as a tennis player, Emily opted to follow in her mother's footsteps as an actress, despite harboring a love for the sport. Explaining her decision, the tennis legend’s daughter said,

“There was an assumption that I should be amazing at tennis. I loved it but quit because I was never going to be that good. A couple of years ago, Dad told me of all his kids I was the most naturally gifted at tennis. I said “Dad, why the hell are you telling me that now? I would have applied myself much more if you’d told me that back then.”

After separating from Tatum O'Neal, John McEnroe went on to marry singer Patty Smith. The couple welcomed two daughters together, Anna and Ava.

The former World No. 1 had his last Laver Cup appearance as Team World's captain this year. Team World narrowly lost to Team Europe thanks to some late heroics from Carlos Alcaraz. McEnroe will be succeeded as Team World captain by Andre Agassi.
