Frances Tiafoe’s girlfriend, Ayan Broomfield, was not a fan of the American’s recent doping test ahead of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. The Canadian jokingly bemoaned the early-morning visit, hinting that they were hoping to get some sleep.

Tiafoe has struggled with his form in 2024. He has earned 13 wins against 14 losses so far. His best result was reaching the final in Houston, where he was the defending champion. At the BOSS Open in Stuttgart earlier this month, the American again failed to defend his title from last year.

Frances Tiafoe competed at the Queen’s Club Championships next, where he was forced to retire during the opener after a nasty fall during the third set. The 26-year-old would thus hope to turn the corner at the Wimbledon Championships, where he takes on Matteo Arnaldi in the opener.

With the tournament just around the corner (July 1–14), the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) officials paid him a visit to perform doping tests. Tiafoe’s girlfriend, Ayan Broomfield, a tennis player herself, was appreciative of the organization’s efforts to keep the tour clean but lamented the early-morning visit.

"Of course, anti-doping come the one morning we try to sleep in," she hilariously wrote on Instagram.

Broomfield, who recently reunited with the American after her appearance at the Vogue World event, continued:

"All in all, keeping the sport clean is extremely important so personally (not that my opinion on this matters, I’m not the one getting poked at 5 a.m. lol) but I’m happy when they enforce the random testing. I just wish they let us sleep in just this one morning."

Frances Tiafoe’s girlfriend also explained that tennis players have to regularly share their whereabouts with the anti-doping officials and often prefer morning slots, given their packed practice schedules.

According to her, the officials “randomly” show up at players' residences during the aforementioned slots.

"Usually, players choose an early slot time like 5 a.m. because it increases the chances of actually being at the given location. They can show up whenever and wherever they want… in that given hour time slot," she wrote in her Instagram stories. "They literally just randomly show up at your house/hotel."

The Canadian elaborated on how the process works, taking note of the three-strikes rule, which a few players fell victim to in recent months. She also highlighted that athletes are responsible for everything they consume, even if any prohibited substance is ingested unknowingly.

"Whether or not it was something the player willingly took or was unknowingly given, they are still held accountable because they make it very clear to be vigilant about knowing everything that goes into your body," she added.
