Katie Boulter has received criticism as she ended her 2025 Australian Open run after a heart-break against Veronika Kudermetova of Russia in Round 2 of the tournament. She took to Instagram to share a post hitting back at trolls online, and her fiancé, Alex de Minaur appreciated her post.
The Brit posted a picture of her with the caption:
"My face when the keyboard warriors become experts in how to be a tennis pro 😂😂"
The Australian tennis star, who is set to take on America's Alex Michelsen in the fourth round tomorrow, showed his support by commenting:
"Hit the ball in the court.... Not that hard 😂 "
One such disapproving user took to X (formerly Twitter), to share a jarring comment on Katie Boulter in a post that featured her watching Alex de Minaur's 3R match from her gym session:
"Now that she’s knocked out she won’t have to watch it in the athlete’s room."
However, career-wise the power couple had a standout last season which was wrapped up by them announcing their engagement on December 23, 2024, on social media. They often share their support for each other while making headlines on and off the court.
Katie Boulter struggles to find a breakthrough as she suffers another early Grand Slam exit
After losing to World No. 75, Veronika Kudermetova 7-6, 2-6, 6-2 in the second round of the ongoing Australian Open, Katie Boulter widened the distance between her and a Grand Slam win.
A tweet exuded frustration from a tennis enthusiast as they claimed that they expected a better performance from the 'British No. 1':
"Katie Boulter still not got past the 2nd round in a major. She’s the British number 1. The ROI on the money the game gets is pitiful."
The 28-year-old however acknowledged the mistakes she made during the match and accepts that she should have taken a moment to reflect on her performance in between sets. She talked about it in detail in the post-match press conference:
"Obviously losing a match like that hurts, but I'm someone that's going to keep showing up."
The British tennis icon, who is yet to advance past the third round in a Major tournament said that she feels "gutted" and hopes to make a stronger comeback after diagnosing the causes of her Australian Open loss.
