After a gap of two years, Team Europe finally regained their hold on the Laver Cup. They shattered Team World's hopes of doing a three-peat at the tournament as Carlos Alcaraz defeated Taylor Fritz to win the trophy for Bjorn Borg's team.

Alcaraz defeated Fritz in straight sets in his second match, 6-2, 7-5. The final score for Team Europe was 13-11 over Team World, giving them their fifth title. Alcaraz played four matches, including two doubles and singles, and won three of them. He contributed essential points (eight out of 13) to his team and took home the tournament MVP award.

This tournament is another accolade for Alcaraz in a year where he has won Roland Garros and Wimbledon. His performance at the Laver Cup is a remarkable comeback from his second-round exit at the US Open against Botic van de Zandschulp.

Taylor Fritz, on the other hand, had to play another deciding match after losing to Jannik Sinner in the US Open final. He played three matches in Berlin, losing only the final one against Alcaraz.

One player who had a campaign to forget at the Laver Cup was Daniil Medvedev.

The Russian started his campaign with an upset loss to Frances Tiafoe in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 5-10. Medvedev has had a decent season so far; apart from being the Australian Open runner-up, he was also the Wimbledon semifinalist and the US Open quarterfinalist. Hence, his second consecutive loss to Ben Shelton in three sets, 7-6, 5-7, 7-10, was quite surprising for his fans.

The team captains - John McEnroe for Team World and Bjorn Borg for Team Europe - have finally decided to pass on the baton after their seventh tournament as leaders. Their final showdown went the distance, with a nailbiting finish on the final day and a closely fought 13-11 scoreline.

A fresh duo of legends like Andre Agassi and Yannick Noah is set to take charge of Team World and Team Europe respectively, starting in 2025. Agassi and Noah met twice during their playing days and had a head-to-head account of 1-1.

Agassi was a well-known heavyweight of his time, winning eight Grand Slams. Noah is also a legend in his own right; he is the only French player to win Roland Garros on their home turf in the Open Era, a feat he achieved in 1983.
