Fresh off his Wimbledon victory, Carlos Alcaraz expressed surprise at receiving a congratulatory message from Formula One legend Lewis Hamilton. The World No. 3 successfully defended his title at SW19 by defeating Novak Djokovic in straight sets.
Alcaraz is currently riding high on success, having won back-to-back Majors at the French Open and Wimbledon to become the sixth man in the Open Era to complete the Channel Slam. The Spaniard ousted Mark Lajal, Aleksandar Vukic, Frances Tiafor, Ugo Humbert, Tommy Paul, and Daniil Medvedev to reach the final of Wimbledon 2024.
In what was a rematch of the 2023 final, the 21-year-old decimated Novak Djokovic 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4). He clinched the title in just two hours and 27 minutes, marking his fourth career Grand Slam victory.
Following his triumph, Carlos Alcaraz sat down for a chat with Marca, where he talked about the celebrities and athletes who congratulated him, including Will Smith and Neymar. However, a message that surprised the Spaniard came from F1 legend Lewis Hamilton.
Alcaraz said that his shock stemmed from the fact that the two athletes had never interacted before.
"I was surprised by Lewis Hamilton's congratulations because he had never written to me before and we had never interacted," said Alcaraz.
The Wimbledon champion mentioned that he was sure that he had missed other names, but nonetheless, he was excited to have received messages from them.
"I am sure there are some more that I have missed, but I am very excited to receive them all," he stated.
"I think I can do great things" - Confident Carlos Alcaraz wants to keep going without thinking about the uncertain future
Alcaraz also acknowledged the unpredictable nature of the future, vowing not to take his success for granted. Nevertheless, he expressed his determination to keep fighting, confident he's on the right track.
Fueled by his potential, Alcaraz vowed to keep training and fighting every day, determined to achieve something remarkable.
"I don't know what the future holds for me. In the end, the future is uncertain and anything can happen in a few years, things can turn in many directions, one way or the other," he said.
"We can't take anything for granted. What I can say is that we're going to fight. We know we're on the right path, doing things right. If we continue with this ambition, this desire to train and fight every day, I think I can do great things, so let's continue down this path and see what the future holds for us," he added.
Carlos Alcaraz will soon head to Paris for the 2024 Olympics, where he will compete in singles and doubles. He will team up with his idol, Rafael Nadal in the doubles category.
