Leylah Fernandez has confirmed she will play doubles with Taylor Townsend at the French Open in May.
Fernandez and Townsend commenced their doubles partnership at Indian Wells, where they endured a second-round exit. However, they bounced back with a run to the final of the Miami Open.
With the duo looking impressive on the doubles circuit, their decision to pair up at the 2023 French Open comes as no surprise.
Fernandez engaged in a Q&A session with her fans on Instagram on Sunday (April 9), during which a fan asked whether she would participate in doubles at Roland Garros. She replied:
"Yes!! With Taylor!!"
During their Miami Open campaign, Fernandez divulged about agreeing to Townsend's proposal of pairing up without a second thought.
"I think we started talking in Australia. In Australia, we started talking and then once the Middle East hit, Taylor [Townsend] asked me if we wanted to play in Indian Wells and Miami. Ofcourse, I said yes, why would I say no!" she said in an interview with Tennis Channel.
During her Q&A session, Fernandez also disclosed her favorite surface as well as her next tournament.
The Canadian didn't have an ideal start to the clay season, enduring a second-round loss at the hands of Paula Badosa in Charleston (7-5, 76(6)).
Leylah Fernandez sees partnership with Townsend as great learning opportunity
Leylah Fernandez recently stated that her nascent partnership with Taylor Townsend has provided her with a "great opportunity" to learn the nuances of doubles tennis, while also having fun.
"I think it's such a great opportunity for me to learn more about doubles and also like learn how to be playing with a lefty. So, it was so nice to be sharing the court with Taylor. I'm learning a lot and I'm also having a lot of fun," Fernandez told Tennis Channel.
Fernandez and Townsend were last seen in action at the Charleston Open, where they lost to Caroline Dolehide and Storm Hunter in the quarterfinals.
