Bianca Andreescu will not be participating at the 2025 Australian Open if incoming reports are anything to go by. The former US Open champion's withdrawal from the Happy Slam has perturbed fans on social media, many of whom believe that the Canadian has wasted far too many chances to get her career back on track.

Andreescu suffered from a serious back injury in 2023 that forced her to be on the sidelines for nearly nine months. While the 24-year-old played regularly on the WTA Tour for the majority of the 2024 season, she will reportedly be sitting out of this year's Melbourne Slam owing to physical niggles.

On Sunday, January 5, Canadian tennis insider Ben Lewis took to his X to reveal that Bianca Andreescu will not make the trip to Melbourne this month. The report hardly comes as shocking considering the World No. 130 also pulled out of this week's ASB Classic citing "personal reasons."

Lewis' report has had a somewhat negative reception in the tennis universe. One fan expressed discontent by claiming that Serena Williams shouldn't have allowed the former World No. 4 to win her two biggest titles to date - the 2019 US Open and the 2019 Cincinnati Open.

"I’m mad as hell Serena let her get a slam!" the user wrote in the replies of the Canadian journalist's post.

Another fan, meanwhile, beckoned Andreescu to retire from pro tennis, as they believe that her presence undermined younger players from the Canadian tennis contingent.

"She should retire. Do we have great young Tennis players with huge potential behind Stakucic and Diallo or @TennisCanada is really bad at developing and recruiting elite players like smaller countries???" the fan wrote.

Here are a few more reactions from social media:

"Massive disappointment. Was so hoping she could get back to her 2019 form. But now thinking her best days are well behind her," one fan wrote.
"tbh I thought she quietly retired from tennis already," another fan wrote.
"Hang it up sis," one fan insisted.

Bianca Andreescu began her 2024 WTA Tour season at the French Open in May, where she reached the third round. The Canadian then made it to the final of the Libema Open against all odds the following month, marking her first championship match-level outing since the 2022 Bad Homburg Open.

Although Andreescu came up short in the title match to the higher-ranked Liudmila Samsonova in three tough sets, it set the tone for an impressive third-round result at Wimbledon.

Unfortunately, Andreescu dropped six of her next nine matches to end the last year at No. 132 in the WTA rankings.
