Carlos Alcaraz's decisive victory over US Open finalist Taylor Fritz in the Laver Cup decider has impressed tennis enthusiasts. The Spaniard clinched eight out of 13 points for Team Europe, contributing significantly to their fifth Laver Cup championship.

Alcaraz, who made his Laver Cup debut in the seventh edition, didn't have the best of starts to his campaign when he and Alexander Zverev lost to Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz on the opening day of the three-day exhibition.

However, the young star secured his first Laver Cup points on Day 2, avenging his earlier defeat against Ben Shelton with a straight-set victory. He, along with Casper Ruud, initiated Day 3 by defeating the American pair of Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton, contributing three vital points to Team Europe's success.

The World No. 3 then took on the American No. 1 Taylor Fritz in the Laver Cup decider and decimated the 2024 US Open runner-up 6-2, 7-5 to win the Laver Cup for Team Europe.

Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to react to Carlos Alcaraz's tremendous performance in the decider and the entire campaign. One of the fans said that this was the Spaniard's best tennis since the Paris Olympics and mentioned how he made the American No. 1 look like a 'challenger level' player.

"When ALCARAZ is on, he's unplayable. He made FRITZ look like a Challenger level player. This week has been the best tennis ALCARAZ had played since the Olympics," the fan wrote.

Another fan praised Alcaraz's performance, saying that there were gimpses of the legendary Roger Federer in the youngster's game.

"The best time I've had watching tennis since @rogerfederer stopped playing. Absolutely gripping + there were glimpses of Roger," the fan opined.

Here are some other reactions from the fans.

"This guy literally played the grand slam final few weeks ago and here he got toyed and treated as if he was a club player. Carlitos," a fan opined.
"Carlos Alcaraz carry the team Europe to the victory!! Solid tournament for him," a fan stated.

After clinching the Laver Cup, Carlos Alcaraz was asked during the on-court interview about how he felt about being called 'Fed05' by his contemporaries from Team World. For the unversed, 'Fed05' is a reference to Roger Federer's 2005 season, which is widely considered as the best season by a tennis player.

However, the Spaniard dismissed any comparisons to Roger Federer, stating that he was far from reaching that level. He further emphasized the impossibility of matching Federer's 2005 level and suggested that his peers consider changing his name, as the "Fed05" title would always be associated with the Swiss maestro.

"I’m too far away from that level. Hopefully, I’ll reach it one day. But it’s gonna be impossible. They have to change my name because Fed 05 is gonna be forever for [Roger Federer]," Alcaraz said.

In 2005, Roger Federer demonstrated his exceptional talent by winning both Wimbledon and the US Open titles, and reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open and Roland Garros. His dominance was further highlighted by an impressive 12-1 record in finals that year, resulting in 11 titles.
