Madison Keys shared a heartfelt message expressing her sorrow over the devastation caused by the Los Angeles fires. She also made a huge donation to support firefighters battling the fires and urged others to contribute.
Los Angeles is facing a series of destructive wildfires, such as the Palisades and Eaton Fires, which have devastated neighborhoods, forced thousands to evacuate, and resulted in tragic fatalities. Firefighters are working around the clock to control the flames and safeguard the community, but the situation remains dire as the fires persist.
On January 11, 2025, Madison Keys took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce a generous donation of $20,000 to the Los Angeles Fire Department to support the firefighters working relentlessly to protect the community from the ongoing disaster. She urged others to contribute if they could.
"I am heartbroken by the devastation being caused by the fires in Los Angeles, a place I once called home early in my tennis career. In support of the incredibly brave firefighters working tirelessly to protect the community, I am donating $20,000 to the Los Angeles Fire Department to assist their efforts. Please join me in donating if you're able," Madison Keys wrote.
Keys also mentioned her foundation, Kindness Wins, working on recovery efforts and shared her thoughts with affected families.
"Kindness Wins is also working on ways to help with the recovery and rebuilding. My thoughts are with all the families affected. Please stay safe," she added.
Madison Keys is currently in Australia, where she recently won her ninth career title at the Adelaide International. The unseeded American tennis star cruised past Beatriz Haddad Maia, Jelena Ostapenko, Daria Kasatkina, Liudmila Samsonova (walkover), and Jessica Pegula in the final to clinch her second title in Adelaide.
Keys is now gearing up for the Australian Open, where she will face fellow American Ann Li in the Melbourne opener on January 14, 2025. The winner of their match will advance to the second round, where they will meet either Irina-Camelia Begu or Elena-Gabriela Ruse.
