Madison Keys opened up about how she is playing “fearlessly” after beating Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals of Australian Open 2025. The American came back from a set down to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 and reach the

The 29-year-old American made her first semifinal in Melbourne back in 2015 as a teenager and then lost to eventual champion Ashleigh Barty at the same stage in 2022. Looking back on her journey, Keys said that she has grown plenty as a player.

“I think I played a little bit smarter, for sure. Probably a little bit less fearless though, but to be here 10 years later in the semifinals, again, I'm really proud of myself and really excited to play another semifinal here in Melbourne,” Keys said in her on-court interview.

Madison Keys staged a stunning comeback after losing the opening set to find her way back into the contest. The 19th seed spoke about how she had to play a more aggressive brand of tennis to get past Svitolina.

“I felt like I had to start playing a little bit more aggressive and try to get to the net a little bit quicker. She was controlling a lot of the points and making me run, so I felt like I needed to try to get on the advantage a little bit quicker, and luckily I was able to do that,” she said.

Keys will next face second seed Iga Swiatek in the semifinals of the Australian Open. Swiatek has been in incredible form and has not lost a set so far in the tournament. She beat Keys’ compatriot Emma Navarro 6-1, 6-2 to earn her spot in the semifinals.

Following her win over Svitolina, Keys' winning streak has increased to ten. The American has had an incredible start to 2025 and is yet to lose a match since her quarterfinal defeat at the ASB Classic in Auckland.

Following the WTA 250 event, the 29-year-old entered the Adelaide International unseeded and went all the way to the final after defeating the likes of Beatriz Haddad Maia, eighth seed Jelena Ostapenko, third seed Daria Kasatkina and Liudmila Samsonova. Here, she beat top seed Jessica Pegula 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 to win the WTA 500 event.

If Keys manages to defeat Swiatek, she will reach her second Grand Slam final.
