Madison Keys decided against commenting on her previous defeat to Aryna Sabalenka ahead of the Australian Open final between the two. The 29-year-old dropped a simple two-word reaction on being asked about her disappointing defeat against the World No.1 back in 2023.
Keys recently booked her slot at the 2025 Australian Open final with her victory over Iga Swiatek. The American ended the Pole's campaign in a hard-fought three-setter. With this win, she extended her streak to 11 wins.
During her press conference following her semifinal win, Keys was reminded of a similar situation against Sabalenka in the 2023 US Open semifinals. With a smirking face, she refrained from giving a reaction.
"Thank you," she said.
Keys faced a disappointing defeat against Sabalenka at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in 2023. Although the American started off well by taking the first set without even giving a game to the Belarusian, she lost the following two sets to the eventual runner-up.
Madison Keys finds her victory over Iga Swiatek unbelievable
WTA star Madison Keys expressed her disbelief after a stunning victory over Iga Swiatek in a thrilling three-set semifinal clash. The 29-year-old shared her excitement about securing a spot in the final. She admitted to replaying each moment in her mind during her on-court interview post-victory.
"Yeah. I’m still trying to catch up to everything that’s happening. I’m in the finals. Wooohooo! Did she have a match point? I feel like I blacked out. At one point I was just out there running around,” she said.
The disbelief was also visible in her moments of celebration as she signed the camera with a small message.
"Oh My God," she wrote.
With this win, the 29-year-old also broke the record of having the biggest gap between two of her Grand Slam final appearances. The feat was earlier held by Amelie Mauresmo with a gap of seven years. Keys' last final appearance at a Grand Slam came in 2017.
Madison Keys is now looking forward to facing Aryna Sabalenka in the final. Their current head-to-head is 4-1 in Sabalenka's favor. However, despite the odds, the American is ready to chase her first-ever major title while Sabalenka goes for her fourth.
