Maria Sharapova recently shared glimpses of the time she spent with her family enjoying a sunset by a beach. The Russian is currently engaged to British businessman Alexander Gilkes, and the couple's son, Theodore was born in July, 2022.
Sharapova is among the finest tennis players of the 21st century and had an impressive career, during which, she won five Grand Slams. She is among the few players who have won all four singles Majors.
The Russian also won 14 WTA 1000 titles while also attaining the World No. 1 ranking. She also has an Olympic medal to her name, clinching silver at the 2012 London Games after being thrashed by Serena Williams in the final.
Sharapova took to her Instagram stories to share a video of her fiance and sun at a beach during sunset. The Russian captioned her story:
"The first sunset of 2025 with my little family."
In 2024, Maria Sharapova competed in the second edition of the Pickleball Slam, partnering John McEnroe. The two lost to Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf. She also attended the US Open as a spectator.
Maria Sharapova on becoming a mother at the right time
In a June 2024 interview with PEOPLE magazine, Sharapova said that she became a mother at the right time.
“I don’t know if any woman ever knows when it’s time to step into a new phase or motherhood, but I feel like I made the choice at the right time. I feel like I have a healthy distance from tennis. I was ready for a new chapter in life," the 37-year-old said.
During the same interview, the former World No. 1 also said that she was not in a hurry to get married to Alexander Gilkes due to their present situation.
"Yeah. We're not in a rush," she says with a laugh. "We're just so excited about Theo, and Alexander also just launched his company recently. So in between work and parenting, there's just so much going on right now," the Russian said.
Sharapova retired from tennis in 2020, with that year's Australian Open being her last tournament. The Russian received a wildcard for the tournament and faced then-19th seed Donna Vekic in the first round. She lost 3-6, 4-6 in what was her second match against the Croat.
