Maria Sharapova and Martina Navratilova's wife Julia Lemigova sent out heartfelt messages to those affected by the Pacific Palisades wildfires that ripped across Los Angeles. On Tuesday, January 7, a fire broke out in Palisade and Eaton and spread across 27,000 acres in LA and neighboring counties over the past 2 days.
There are seven fires blazing including Hurst Fire in the Sylmar and the Sunset Fire in the Hollywood Hills. Firefighters are straining to douse the fire that is aided by gusting winds while evacuation orders are being carried out.
Amid this, Maria Sharapova took to her Instagram handle on Thursday to share a picture containing an aerial view of the city of LA shrouded in dense smoke. She used a broken heart emoji to express her sentiments.
Martina Navratilova's wife Julia Lemigova also took to Instagram to share the concerning news with a message for the victims.
"Praying for everyone affected by this devastating fire."
The wildfires are an anomaly to California's wildfire season which usually begins in June.

Maria Sharapova and Julia Lemigova were joined by Naomi Osaka and Coco Gauff's ex-coach Brad Gilbert from the tennis community to express their concern for the victims of the LA wildfires.
Brad Gilbert took to X (formerly Twitter) on January 8 to share his reaction to the videos coming in from LA on the internet. He sent out a message, urging everyone to stay safe.
"On the plane ✈️ now to Melbourne seeing the videos on X it is so scary 😱 what’s happening in palisades and Malibu, the winds were were brutal and unfortunately still are, anyone know how far up the PCH the fire 🔥 has gone into Malibu now,firefighters 🚒🙏 🙏🙏🙏 stay safe.”
Meanwhile, Naomi Osaka shared a screenshot from her Threads post on her Instagram story. The four-time Grand Slam winner used a black backdrop to send out a message to those living near the fire afflicted areas.
"Hope everyone in LA is staying safe," Osaka wrote.
The California resident is currently in Melbourne for the 2025 Australian Open. Osaka is set to clash with Carline Garcia in the opening round of the Grand Slam event on Sunday, January 12.
