Martina Navratilova has agreed with former US government official and author Juliette Kayyem's prediction that President-elect Donald Trump will pardon those responsible for the January 6 US Capitol attack in 2021 because he "wants to be the hero." The attack stemmed from then-President Trump's claim that he had been unfairly defeated by Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential elections and asking supporters to "fight like hell", leaving five dead and 174 police officers injured.
A week later, Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives for incitement of insurrection. Kayyem took to X (formerly Twitter) on December 2 and wrote:
"I need to tell you something: Trump is going to pardon the January 6th insurrectionists regardless of a Biden pardon of his son. I don't know why people don't listen to Trump. He's an open book."
