Tennis great Martina Navratilova launched a scathing attack on Donald Trump after former President Goerge W. Bush seemingly snubbed the President-elect at Jimmy Carter's funeral. Carter, who was the 39th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981, passed away on December 29, 2024, at the age of 100.
Navratilova's reaction came to a clip that has been doing the rounds of social media. The clip shows Bush giving a belly tap to former President Barack Obama, while ignoring Trump, who was seated right next to the 44th President.
The short clip was shared by the account "BrooklynDad_Defiant " on X. Majid M. Padellan, an ardent supporter of the Democratic party and firm critic of Trump, runs the account, which has over a million followers.
"Call me petty, but I could watch this clip of former President Bush snubbing trump a few dozen times," he captioned the post, adding a laugh emoji.
A Republican party supporter attacked Padellan over the post, alleging that Bush and Obama are a part of the "swamp" that Trump has vowed to drain. Trump has promised to "drain the swamp" ever since he ran for the office of US President in 2016.
"Let's you know whose in the Swamp," KwayZee remarked in reaction to Padellan's post.
Martina Navratilova, who is a staunch critic of Trump and a supporter of the Democratic party, retorted by claiming, "Trump is the swamp."
Meanwhile, Bush, worth $50 million (via Celebrity Net Worth), has come under fire from Trump supporters for purportedly ignoring the incoming president. Steve Bannon, a White House adviser during Trump's first term, has slammed Bush as the "worst president" of the US and an "arrogant, out-of-touch elite" after the alleged snub.
Navratilova, a former World No. 1 and 18-time Grand Slam winner, frequently shares her political takes on X, where she has over 450,000 followers.
Martina Navratilova is a staunch critic of Republican leader Donald Trump
Martina Navratilova took furious digs at Donald Trump throughout last year's presidential election cycle and slammed the US as a "racist patriarchy" after he won the election defeating Kamala Harris.
She posted on X,"Well, Trump won. Fear and anger won. And a country that was born as a racist patriarchy proved beyond any reasonable doubt it still is a racist patriarchy. Not sure when this ceases to be true."
Navratilova has also decried the Republican leader's followers, describing them as "deluded" and "brainwashed."
