Martina Navratilova called for a sweeping law to be introduced to ban transgender women from accessing biological women's spaces. Navratilova strongly believes that public spaces earmarked for biological women, such as restrooms, should not be shared with transgender women. The Czech-American's latest suggestion came on the back of a video that captured a trans man filming himself inside a women's restroom.
On Sunday, December 15, an X (formerly Twitter) user shared a video of a trans man wearing a short, yellow dress, who was obsessively checking himself out in the mirror of a women's restroom. The trans man did not budge even when multiple biological women came into the restroom.
Former World No. 1 and 18-time singles Grand Slam champion Martina Navratilova saw the video and reshared it with a caption, through which she ridiculed the trans man and urged the introduction of a sweeping "no males in female spaces" law.
"And he thinks he looks good too. No males in female spaces, please!!! This must be a law everywhere," Navratilova wrote.
The debate around same-sex spaces has come to the fore again recently after significant political developments in the US. It all started when US Representative Nancy Mace called for the prohibition of transgender women's access to biological women's restrooms across all federal buildings and offices in the country. Critics alleged that Mace's move was a direct attack on transgender Representative-elect Sarah McBride.
Earlier this month, Navratilova slammed a political commentator after he shared his views on the raging debate.
"WTAF???" - Martina Navratilova was baffled by political commentator Tim Miller's take on transgender women accessing women's spaces
Political commentator, Tim Miller told philosopher Sam Harris in early December this year that he is reluctant to share locker room spaces with men despite being gay. However, Miller concluded that he has to get on with it without complaining because "that's just life".
The political commentator's views on the subject did not impress Martina Navratilova. The Czech-American tennis legend blatantly criticized Miller and highlighted the importance of biological women's privacy and safety.
"Tim Miller - WTAF??? 1- we don’t want to see it 2- we don’t want to be seen 3- we don’t want to even think about it- safety, dignity etc. What is wrong with you???" a fuming Navratilova asked.
More recently, Navratilova lashed out at President-elect Donald Trump after he seemingly dismissed the subject and opined that more important things need to be worked on.
