Martina Navratilova called Donald Trump a "strong" and "repulsive" man while claiming that most Americans voted for him despite his "racism and fascism." Trump won the 2024 presidential elections and will be sworn in as the 47th US President in January 2025.
American tennis icon Martina Navratilova has condemned Republican president-elect Trump for the past few weeks and endorsed Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. Upon Trump's election triumph, she penned a message for the people of America.
"Fear and anger won," Navratilova wrote on X. "And a country that was born as a racist patriarchy proved beyond any reasonable doubt it still is a racist patriarchy."
In a response to her post, an X account by the name of David Thunder explained with a blog that "Trump's voters are not all idiots and fascists." In their blog, they said that Trump’s re-election shocked many Americans and they could not "understand how a man recently convicted of multiple felonies" won.
Further, they wrote that the reactions labeling Trump's voters as "stupid" or "nihilistic," suggest that a more constructive approach is to engage with Trump voters and explore the real concerns driving their support.
In response, Navratilova wrote "Nobody ever said that," which led to David Thunder claiming that their X account feeds must be different.
In one of the later replies in their exchange on X, Navratilova commented on Trump’s return to the White House. She claimed that, while some voters backed him because of his "racism and fascism," the majority did so despite it.
"What I am saying some voted for trump because of his racism and fascism and some, most, voted for him despite his racism and fascism. Strong men, how repulsive they might be personally, seem to be the in thing these days."
Martina Navratilova reacts to Kamala Harris reportedly losing votes to Donald Trump for focusing "more on cultural issues like transgender issues"
According to a report by Blueprint, as posted by a user on X, among other things, Kamala Harris lost votes to Donald Trump due to her focus being "more on cultural issues like transgender issues rather than helping the middle class."
Another X user reposted the report, writing:
"Never understood why the Democrats so enthusiastically championed objectively bad policies (men in women’s sports - yay!) that also put them out of step with the voters who take a much more sensible position on these issues than them."
Martina Navratilova, who has been a vocal advocate of excluding transgenders from women's sports, also came across the post and reposted it.
"Hmm," the American wrote.
On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, the 60th quadrennial presidential election was held and Republican candidate Donald Trump emerged victorious. He will be sworn into office for a second time on January 20, 2025.
