Martina Navratilova claimed that Donald Trump would "ride the American economy's coattails". The former World No. 1's reproach comes amid Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's meeting with the US President-elect.
Amid the strong tariffs proposed on Canadian imports by Donald Trump, Canada's PM Trudeau flew to Florida to meet Trump at the Mar-a-Lago club. The meeting became a talking point on the internet, with one journalist joking that world leaders were lining up to "kiss the ring" even before Trump assumed office.
"Canadian PM Justin Trudeau has just arrived at Mar-a-Lago to have dinner with President Trump. Trump isn't even in office yet, and world leaders are ALREADY lining up to kiss the ring. AMERICA IS BACK BABY," the user wrote on X.
Reacting to this, Navratilova wrote that Trump would effortlessly benefit from the economy and "brag" about it after criticizing behind people's backs for years.
"America never left, baby. The orange guy will ride this great economy's coat tails and brag about it after bad mouthing it for years," Navratilova wrote.
Trump won a second term in office after defeating Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in the November 5 presidential elections. He has made his presence felt since getting elected, proposing major reforms in taxes and trade policies. The 78-year-old has planned to impose a 25% tariff on products imported from Canada and Mexico once he assumes office.
"An embarrassment" - Martina Navratilova slams Donald Trump over his Thanksgiving message
Martina Navratilova slammed Donald Trump over his Thanksgiving message, calling him "an embarrassment to the whole world."
The US celebrated Thanksgiving on the 28th of November. On the occasion, Trump took to social media to censure the opposition party, calling them "radical left lunatics." He also vowed to "make America great again" under his term.
"Happy Thanksgiving to all, including to the Radical Left Lunatics who have worked so hard to destroy our Country, but who have miserably failed, and will always fail, because their ideas and policies are so hopelessly bad that the great people of our Nation just gave a landslide victory to those who want to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN," Trump wrote.
Navratilova labeled Trump's message a "divisive nonsense," stating that America is currently "great" and could only get better "long after he was gone."
"Really hard to explain this divisive nonsense. You are an embarrassment to the whole world. America is great now though could be better, and will be great and keep trying to be better long after you are gone," Navratilova wrote on her post.
Martina Navratilova has frequently raised her voice against the Trump-led Republican government. The 18-time Grand Slam champion condemned Trump's proposal to implement new tariffs by mocking his voters for electing such a candidate for the presidency.
