Martina Navratilova delivers 1-word reaction to firefighters' reported negligence amid LA firestorm

Martina Navratilova delivered a worried reaction after taking notice of firefighters' reported negligence amid the devastating Los Angeles firestorm. At least two dozen people are known to have died already, and concerningly, economic forecasts suggest that the firestorm has caused losses in the range of $135 billion to $150 billion.

On Monday, January 13, C an author for The Washington Post and MSNBC, took to X (formerly Twitter) and shared an article. The article, titles 'What caused the Palisades blaze? Visual evidence points to a recent fire nearby. Leonnig captioned her post:

"What an important reader service: Palisades fire that has devoured 5,000+ homes appears to have originated at a small burn site firefighters had knocked down days earlier. It's a well known risk that fires can restart from embers at a smoldering site, but the fire department was no longer closely monitoring the area and responded more slowly when the area reignited."

Former World No. 1 women's tennis legend in both singles and doubles, Martina Navratilova, saw Leonnig's post and reacted by stating:

"Yikes"

Navratilova has been keeping a close eye on developments with regards to the devastating firestorm that have brought LA to its knees.

Previously, Martina Navratilova had expressed her sorrow at the vast scale of tragedy currently engulfing LA, which has forced many of the city's residents to abandon their lifelong homes and seek refuge elsewhere with their families. On Wednesday, January 8, former First Lady of California Maria Shriver wrote on X:

"Heartbreaking, devastating, beyond belief. Everything is gone. Our neighborhood, our restaurants. All our friends have lost everything. We have evacuated, but are safe. But people have lost everything."

Shriver added:

"The firefighters have and are doing their best, but this fire is massive and out of control, and now there are multiple fires burning across Los Angeles. We in this city will put our arms around one another. We will rise, but right now these fire continues to burn. People need to stay safe, stay out of harms way, and allow firefighters do what they can to help those who need immediate assistance. The best place to get up to date information is from the @watchdutyapp or @calfire. Stay alert and stay safe! #lafires"

Saddened by the unfortunate development, Martina Navratilova reacted to Shriver's post with three crying emojis, in clear concern for the people of LA.

Navratilova's former doubles partner, Pam Shriver, has been greatly affected by the firestorm. Shriver was originally supposed to be in Australia right now to coach Donna Vekic at the 2025 Australian Open. However, she earlier confirmed that she would be making her way to her LA home to take care of her family. Later, Vekic herself paid tribute to the victims of the catastrophe.
