Martina Navratilova reacted to the shocking double bounce controversy that transpired during the 2025 Australian Open quarterfinal match between Iga Swiatek and Emma Navarro.

Swiatek and Navarro locked horns at Rod Laver Arena on Wednesday, January 22, to secure a spot in the last-four. The Pole powered her way through the first set after seven games. She was serving game point at 2-2 in the second set when the double bounce controversy happened. She won the point despite video evidence suggesting that she returned the ball after it had bounced twice.

Taking to social media on Wednesday, journalist Jon Wertheim expressed his disbelief at how "robots" were placed everywhere on the courts but none to detect double bounces.

"Oh my God, we have robots everywhere; and we don't have them for the seeing double bounces?!"," Wertheim wrote on X.

Reacting to this, Navratilova wrote:

"Ha!"

After Swiatek hit the winner, Navarro rushed to the chair umpire to enquire about the double bounce. However, the American could not request for a review as she had already played out the point. As per the rules, the player should stop play immediately to get a decision reversed or a point replayed.

Navarro failed to recover from the setback, eventually losing the match 1-6, 2-6. Despite the tough loss, the American had a lot of positives to take from her Melbourne campaign. She defeated ninth-seed Daria Kasatkina and former World No. 2 Ons Jabeur enroute her first quarterfinal appearance at the Melbourne Major.

Meanwhile, Swiatek will face Madison Keys in the semifinals on Thursday. This will be their sixth meeting on the tour, with the Pole leading their head-to-head 4-1.

Martina Navratilova showered praise on Novak Djokovic for his "amazing" win over Carlos Alcaraz at the 2025 Australian Open.

Djokovic picked up an injury during the first set of his quarterfinal clash against Alcaraz. The Serb called for a medical timeout following which he was bandaged on the thigh. He struggled to keep up with Alcaraz's pace and lost the opening set.

However, Djokovic showed great determination as he played through the injury to win the following three sets. He won the match 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 to make it to the Australian Open semifinals for a record-breaking twelfth time. After the match, Navratilova took to social media to express her admiration for the 24-time Grand Slam champion.

"What a win- amazing, truly. Hat off to Novak- what a warrior!," Martina Navratilova's post read.

Novak Djokovic will face Alexander Zverev in the semifinals on Friday. The duo has already faced each other on twelve occassions so far, with the Serb winning eight of them.
