Martina Navratilova recently criticized former Governor Andrew Cuomo for filing a defamation lawsuit against Charlotte Bennett, who had accused him of harassment. Cuomo, an American politician with a net worth of $3 million, is also the former Attorney General of New York State.
Nearly three years ago, Bennett, the second woman to publicly accuse him of sexual harassment, alleged that Cuomo subjected her to deeply personal questions about her private life and relationships. Furthermore, she initiated legal action against the 67-year-old in state and federal courts.
Earlier this month, Bennett dismissed the lawsuit, with her legal team stating that Cuomo had "sexually harassed" her—a statement she later reposted on X.
Cuomo's legal team dismissed the statements as false and defamatory, prompting him to seek compensatory damages, according to the filing, which was released on Thursday, December 19.
"Cuomo fully intends to clear his name and to ensure that Bennett and her agents never again repeat the falsehood that he sexually harassed Bennett," they said (via AP).
Bennett was reportedly among 11 women who accused the former governor of inappropriate conduct. New York State Senator, Jessica Ramos later shared the development on X writing:
"Andrew Cuomo remains the same remorseless bully who sexually harassed all those women, covered up the deaths of all those grandparents, and didn’t sell all those books."
The update later left 18-time-Grand Slam champion, Martina Navratilova fuming, who wrote:
"The absolute gall… oh to have the cockiness and unwarranted confidence of some men… like Andrew, who clearly has absolutely no remorse…"
Martina Navratilova expressed shock over the situation of women getting abused in prison
On December 14, Dr. Suzanne Vierling, a user on X, highlighted a troubling situation affecting women in prisons. According to Vierling, transgender inmates are reportedly raping women in prison cells, leading to pregnancies and the subsequent births of babies, who are then allegedly sold into foster care.
Martina Navratilova, a fervent advocate for safeguarding sex-based spaces for women, subsequently responded to the post, asserting that the majority of women do not endorse such developments.
"I would say almost all women do not support this either. It is vile," Navratilova wrote.
In addition, the Czech-American has consistently championed women’s sports and opposed the inclusion of transgender athletes in the category. A few days ago, Navratilova also praised transgender athlete Nicole Powers for stepping away from women’s sports.
