Martina Navratilova has reiterated her sentiments on the situation in Afghanistan following the news of the Taliban banning the construction of windows and restricting the freedom of women. JK Rowling also called out the disrespectful treatment Afghan women were facing. Taliban retook control of Afghanistan in 2021 following which the nation has seen a significant fall in women's rights.
A page named WDIAfghanistan (Women's Declaration International) on X, documenting the state of Afghan women under Taliban rule, posted:
"The Taliban have banned the construction of windows that allow women to be seen in the kitchen or courtyard of neighboring houses. This further restricts women’s freedom. Yet, the world and United Nations remains silent about Afghan women."
JK Rowling, the $1 billion-worth author (according to Celebrity Net Worth), who is a huge advocate for women's rights, expressed her disappointment at the situation.
"Afghan women are as deserving of respect, autonomy and dignity as every other woman in the world. The lack of meaningful reprisals for the flagrant human rights abuses visited upon Afghan women by the Taliban shames the international community," Rowling tweeted.
Martina Navratilova, who usually shares similar opinions as Rowling, responded to the Harry Potter author's comment by reiterating her feelings about Taliban men. She posted:
"I will say it again - All Taliban men are evil."
"Evile f*cks, all of them" - When Martina Navratilova lashed out at Taliban men for coming up with a new method to restrict women's use of technology
Sara Wahedi, CEO and founder of Afghanistan's pioneering civic tech platform Ehtesab, relayed the alarming news that the Taliban had begun issuing warnings to men who were allowing women relatives to use technology in their homes. She posted on X:
"As I predicted, the Taliban has begun rolling out warnings against male relatives who allow women to use technology inside the home. The decrees will strengthen with time. For orgs working on ed-tech in Afghanistan, VPN/security training must be top priority."
Martina Navratilova, who was appalled by the news, lashed out at the Taliban.
"The Taliban are evil f*cks. All of them," the American tweeted.
Martina Navratilova never shies away from giving her opinion on sensitive issues and is a huge advocate for women's rights. She also expressed her outrage at the news of a six-year-old getting married to a 55-year-old man, calling the people who allowed this to happen as 'monsters'.
