Martina Navratilova has spoken out against Donald Trump after the 2024 Republican presidential candidate and former US President claimed that he had inherited the American economy from Barack Obama in a dismal state. Navratilova also took a swipe at Trump over him continuing to share misinformation regarding the 2020 elections.
Trump and Kamala Harris have both been frenzied with their campaigning recently, ahead of the scheduled election result date, Tuesday, November 5. In one of his recent rallies, Trump said that the US economy had crumbled during Barack Obama's eight-year tenure as President, and that he "took over the mess" to try and fix it.
The 78-year-old also called the former President a "divider". Trump then proceeded to have a go at Obama's wife Michelle. According to Trump, he was always respectful of Michelle, but didn't appreciate the former First Lady's recent criticism of him.
"I took over the mess that Barack Hussein Obama, who is a big divider.. I've always treated his wife with respect… she came at me the other day. That is not nice of her to do. And I think we are going to start having a little fun with Michelle," Trump said.
Martina Navratilova, a fiercely vocal critic of Donald Trump, later took notice of this on X (formerly Twitter) and countered the former President's take. Former World No. 1 Navratilova also brought up Trump's refusal to still acknowledge his loss in the 2020 elections, which saw Joe Biden and Kamala Harris becoming President and Vice President respectively.
"The orange man inherited a great economy from Obama. And he still keeps lying about 2020 election knowing full well he lost….," Martina Navratilova wrote.
A few days back, the 18-time singles Grand Slam champion took a dig at Trump's intellect over his swipe at his former chief of staff, John Kelly.
Martina Navratilova questioned Donald Trump's "IQ" after former President's verbal attack on John Kelly
John Kelly was Donald Trump's longest serving chief of staff in the White House. However, despite Kelly's past closeness with Trump, the former has been vocal about the latter's 'fascist' personality traits, and how re-electing him as President may have far-reaching, negative consquences.
Trump, clearly unimpressed by Kelly, referred to him as a "low IQ guy" at one of his rallies. Martina Navratilova, in turn, took the same swipe at Trump via a post on X.
"I know who is a low IQ guy and he wears a lot of orange makeup," Navratilova wrote.
Navratilova was previously left fuming after a grand Republican rally at Madison Square Garden stirred controversy. The former World No. 1 slammed it, labeling the event "abominable".
