Martina Navratilova lashed out at the NCAA after a video of a reported transgender athlete, playing on a women's volleyball team, spiking the ball at the face of a female player during a match surfaced online. The tennis legend believes that this was the NCAA's fault and not the Biden-Harris administration.
Navratilova has expressed her disdain for transgender athletes competing in women's sports. On one occasion, she even said that women's sports were not a place for failed male athletes.
Recently, Riley Gaines, former American competitive swimmer, and 12-time NCAA All-American, called out the NCAA and the Biden-Harris administration as she reshared the video of the aforementioned incident. The reported transgender player, named Blaire Fleming, plays for the San Jose State volleyball team.
Navratilova took to X and claimed, "This is all on NCAA," since Joe Biden had done nothing to instigate or pacify the issue of men in women's sports. And though she seemed disappointed with the administration's lack of action, the 67-year-old questioned the NCAA how many women needed to get hurt before they would change this rule.
"This is all on NCAA- Biden has not helped on this issue nor did he do this- this is NCAA and no one else. And it stinks. How many women need to get hurt by male power before you change the rules based on sex @NCAA ???" Navratilova tweeted.
"At this rate so many women athletes will be erased": Martina Navratilova on Blaire Fleming participating in the San Jose State women's volleyball team
An X user (Beth Bourne) had brought attention to the reported transgender athlete Blaire Fleming's participation in the San Jose State's team, during their match against the Iowa Hawkeyes. The user highlighted the physical prowess of Fleming and questioned whether it was fair to other women that "a mediocre male player" was competing amongst them.
Navratilova retweeted the post and wrote that not only was Fleming's participation dangerous but it was also not a smart move. She feared that at this rate, women athletes would go down in numbers heavily.
"Not just unfair but dangerous and not sustainable. At this rate so many women athletes will be erased," Navratilova wrote.
Martina Navratilova has clarified that she is not against transgender athletes, however, she is of the strong opinion that biological males should compete in the men's category in order to create a level playing field for women.
