Martina Navratilova has lashed out at Elon Musk over his alleged efforts to silence his critics on X (formerly Twitter). Musk, who purchased the social media platform in 2022, has introduced several notable changes to the site, much to Navratilova's chagrin.
Musk recently stirred controversy by stating that his companies needed to hire immigrants due to the "dire shortage of extremely talented and motivated engineers in America." The Tesla CEO's defense of hiring workers on H-1B visas garnered backlash from his conservative supporters, who have increased in number since his support for President-elect Donald Trump in the 2024 US elections.
With the backlash circulating on X, an analysis by the AI Grok concluded that conservative influencers who had openly criticized Musk were facing repercussions like losing their verification badges and having their visibility on the platform reduced.
Martina Navratilova, who previously accused Elon Musk of "destroying" X, sarcastically criticized the $460 billion-worth business tycoon for stifling free speech on his platform.
"So much free speech, right Elon???," Navratilova commented.
The 18-time Grand Slam champion recently also endorsed a comment mocking Donald Trump supporters over the irony of Murk preferring to hire immigrant workers over Americans.
"Hmm," Navratilova commented.
Martina Navratilova responds to Donald Trump's remarks denying Elon Musk's ability to become US President
Elon Musk played an instrumental role in Donald Trump winning the 2024 US presidential election. However, concerns about the business tycoon's growing political influence prompted Trump to issue a firm clarification that Musk wouldn't become the US President since he was born in South Africa.
"He's [Elon] not going to be president, that I can tell you. I’m safe. You know why? He can’t be, he wasn’t born in this country," Trump said. "
Martina Navratilova, who is a vocal critic of Trump, questioned what the President-elect's stance would've been if Musk was born in the US.
"So would trump act differently if Musk had been born in US??? I mean…" she wrote.
The former World No. 1 also issued a scathing response to Texas Congressman Tony Gonzales, who called Elon Musk the "voice of the people" and referred to the Tesla CEO as the American "Prime Minister."
"What a load of crap- Musk is the voice of the people????" Navratilova posted on X.
Martina Navratilova denounced Gonzalez's remarks as "delusional," highlighting the irony of portraying the richest man in the world as a representative of ordinary American people.
