Martina Navratilova recently criticized Republican Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna's opinion that the American government should incentivize US citizens "to make better food choices". The tennis great's criticism stemmed from her recollection of how Republicans protested when Michelle Obama tried to do the same thing.

Navratilova, a staunch critic of the Republicans and Donald Trump, has continued to raise her voice on sensitive sociopolitical issues despite Trump's victory in the 2024 presidential elections. In her prime, the former World No. 1 and 18-time singles Grand Slam champion revolutionized tennis with her disciplined approach to diet and nutrition, inspiring many tennis players who broke through after her.

Recently, US Representative Anna Paulina Luna took to X (formerly Twitter) and opined that the time has come for nutrition to be given greater priority than profits.

"Instead of subsidizing unhealthy, processed foods that harm our health, our government should incentivize Americans to make better food choices! It's time to prioritize nutrition over profits and support a healthier, stronger nation," Luna wrote.

Rachel Bitecofer, a US political analyst, took notice of Luna's post and remembered how Michelle Obama was working towards the same goal. However, Bitecofer also recollected the Republicans' opposition to it.

"Michelle Obama tried to do this for school kids and yall called it socialism," Bitecofer wrote.

Later, Martina Navratilova echoed Bitecofer's sentiments, writing:

"Exactly. They were screaming from the rafters- how dare you tell us what our children should have for lunch!!! How dare you tell us we are not healthy and are overweight!!!"

In the buildup to the day of the results of the 2024 presidential elections, Navratilova fumed at Donald Trump after his claim about inheriting the US economy from Barack Obama.

At a Republican rally ahead of the 2024 presidential election results, Donald Trump claimed that when he became President for the first time, he had to work with an economy that had been reduced to a "mess" by his predecessor, Barack Obama. Trump also seemingly made derogatory remarks on Obama's wife, Michelle, the former First Lady.

"I took over the mess that Barack Hussein Obama, who is a big divider.. I've always treated his wife with respect… she came at me the other day. That is not nice of her to do. And I think we are going to start having a little fun with Michelle," Trump said.

Infuriated by Trump's claim, Martina Navratilova took to X and wrote:

"The orange man inherited a great economy from Obama. And he still keeps lying about 2020 election knowing full well he lost…."

Navratilova was clearly upset at the results of the 2024 US presidential elections. The Czech-American tennis legend had endorsed Kamala Harris for President.
