Martina Navratilova has lashed out at Republican vice-presidential candidate JD Vance for calling Kamala Harris "trash" during a Pennsylvania campaign appearance. The Ohio Senator is Donald Trump's running mate for the US presidential election.
Vance said:
“In two days, we are gonna take out the trash in Washington, D.C., and the trash’s name is Kamala Harris.”
The 18-time Grand Slam champion reacted to Vance's comment, calling him an "a**hole."
"The only piece of trash here is asshole Vance," Martina Navratilova tweeted.
Former World No. 1 Navratilova has criticized Trump and rooted for Harris for the past few months.
"Keeps lying about 2020 election knowing full well he lost" - Martina Navratilova on Donald Trump
Last month, Martina Navratilova accused Donald Trump of lying to US citizens. Republican presidential candidate Trump called out President Barack Obama last month for allegedly spoiling the country's economy:
"I took over the mess that Barack Hussein Obama made."
Navratilova reacted to the comment and labeled Trump a "liar."
"The orange man inherited a great economy from Obama. And he still keeps lying about 2020 election knowing full well he lost," Martina Navratilova tweeted.
Apart from Navratilova, tennis legend Billie Jean King and current World No. 3 Coco Gauff also voiced their support for Harris via social media. King posted a one-minute video on her X account and hailed Harris' leadership:
"This November I'm casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Waltz. Kamala Harris has a history of strong leadership and an unwavering commitment to public service, as a prosecutor, attorney general, senator, and vice president. She fights hard for Americans, she will be a president for all people, no matter what their race, class, sexual identity, or party line."
"I think it is really incredible, you know, no matter who you're voting for, who you stand for, it is really incredible to see how far this country has come and people of color, Black people in general. It's really inspiring to see someone on that ballot. Yeah, honestly it takes the works of many others to pave the way. Yeah, I'm excited that I'm able to see this in my lifetime because I know many others didn't get that chance to."
Martina Navratilova has been firmly behind Harris in the presidential elections this year.
