Martina Navratilova slammed 47th US President-elect Donald Trump over his ‘utterly idiotic’ statement on current grocery prices. Trump promised to cut grocery prices during his presidential campaign in October.
In an interview with Time Magazine, the Republican candidate blamed the Biden government for failing to handle inflation, which affected the higher price of groceries.
"Look, they got them up. I’d like to bring them down. It’s hard to bring things down once they’re up. You know, it’s very hard," Trump said.
On Friday, December 13, Navratilova slammed Trump on an X post (formerly Twitter) for his “idiotic statement” about the grocery price.
“Well, if they weren’t up, you wouldn’t need to bring them down. What an utterly idiotic statement by trump.”
She further called him a ‘liar’, ‘bully’, and ‘braggart’ for not valuing his promises made during the presidential campaign. She mockingly said that this qualities are the “small nicer part” of him.
“He is nothing but a liar, bully ,and braggart. And that is just a small nicer part of who he is.”
"Lying liar" - Martina Navratilova on Donald Trump's latest grocery remarks
Martina Navratilova has been consistently voicing her opinion against Donald Trump. She previously called him a ‘lying liar’ for his comments when he was asked about the promise to lower grocery prices.
In Trump’s Republican nomination acceptance speech in July 2024, Trump promised to eliminate inflation during his presidency and promised a thriving future for the middle class.
“Under my plan, incomes will skyrocket, inflation will vanish completely, jobs will come roaring back, and the middle class will prosper like never before,” he said.
On December 12, an X user highlighted the President-elect’s quotes about how it was difficult to bring the price down once they were up.
They wrote:
“Trump tells Time he's not sure he can get the price of groceries down: 'It's hard to bring things down once they're up. You know, it's very hard."
In response to the user's post, Navratilova criticized Trump, writing:
“So can’t fix inflation? Didn’t he say many times I alone can fix it? Or I will fix it? Lying liar and the lies he lies about.”
The 18-time Grand Slam champion endorsed Kamala Harris in the election race against Donald Trump and has continuously slammed both Trump and one of his biggest supporters, Elon Musk.
