Martina Navratilova expressed her opinion regarding the recent acceptance speech given by Karla Sofía Gascón at the Golden Globes. The Grand Slam champion wasn't very happy about the fact that Gascón was the person selected to accept the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy obtained by the story titled "Emilia Pérez".

Gascón is a Spanish actress who portrayed the title character in the movie. She was also nominated for the Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy award, becoming the first trans nominee in a film acting category at the Golden Globes.

In a social media post, Navratilova wrote:

"Pathetic. It's always about them. Always."

Navratilova has been very vocal about her opinions regarding transgender athletes in professional sports in the past. These remarks were interpreted by the Athlete Ally advocacy group as enough reason to revoke the player's membership from its organization.

Navratilova often talks about how she doesn't feel comfortable with the idea of transgender athletes competing in women's sports at a professional level.

In June 2019, the BBC hosted an entire transmission called "The Trans Women Athlete Dispute with Martina Navratilova", where the former tennis player had the opportunity to interview some of the athletes who had transitioned and competed at a professional level. In the years since the broadcast took place, Navratilova has supported several bills and movements against the trans athletic community.

Decades before "Emilia Pérez" was even produced, Martina Navratilova dominated the tennis courts with her undeniable talent. The legend of the sport won 18 Grand Slam titles across all surfaces, making her one of the most respected figures in the history of women's tennis.

Three of these Grand Slams came in the form of the Australian Open. The first Grand Slam of the season is only a couple of weeks away from starting, with current tennis stars such as Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka looking to leave their mark on the legacy that Navratilova contributed to decades ago.

In the years since the conclusion of her tennis career, Navratilova continues to be involved in activities related to the sport.

A decade ago, Navratilova attempted to become Agnieszka Radwanzka's coach. The pairing would only last for six months. In recent years, Navratilova has remained an ambassador for tennis in events taking place all over the world.

She is also very vocal on social media about various political and social matters, especially in the United States.
