Martina Navratilova reacted to Donald Trump's plans to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. The President-elect has asserted that the name would be "appropriate."
On Tuesday, January 8, Trump told reporters at a news conference in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, about his plan to rename the Gulf of Mexico, which is surrounded by the Gulf Coast of the United States and several states of Mexico.
"We’re going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, which has a beautiful ring that covers a lot of territory. The Gulf of America. What a beautiful name," Trump said.
"And it’s appropriate. It’s appropriate," the 78-year-old asserted.
Referring to his comments, an X account sarcastically stated:
"You know what would really bring down the price of eggs? The Gulf of America"
Trolling the President-elect, whose net worth is $8 billion (as per Celebrity Net Worth), Navratilova reshared the post and wrote:
"!!! Yeah!!!"
The reference to bringing down egg prices might have stemmed from Trump’s earlier comments about groceries during and after his campaign. During his 2024 campaign, President-elect Trump focused on grocery prices, promising to reduce costs for American families.
After winning, Trump told NBC's "Meet the Press" that he won due to issues like immigration and the economy, including grocery prices. However, in an interview with Time magazine, he admitted that bringing grocery prices down would be "very hard."
Martina Navratilova reveals why she could never bring herself to vote for Donald Trump
Martina Navratilova recently sparked a heated conversation on X after sharing an article about why Democrats should support bills introduced by Rep. Nancy Mace aimed at protecting female-only spaces.
When a commenter criticized the American tennis icon's stance of voting for Democrats, Navratilova strongly defended her views. She asserted that she would never vote for someone like Donald Trump, whom she called a "rapist."
"I won’t vote for a rapist- why do you?" she asked.
This response led to further back-and-forth, with the commenter accusing her of hypocrisy and pointing out the sexual allegations against Joe Biden and Bill Clinton. Navratilova maintained her position, refuting the comparison and emphasizing that her decision was based on Trump’s conduct.
"Trump is an adjudicated rapist and he bragged about grabbing women by their private parts. Fauci saved lives- try again," Martina Navratilova wrote.
Trump will begin his second term as President of the United States on January 20, with JD Vance set to take office as the 50th Vice President.
