Martina Navratilova trolled President-elect Donald Trump and his ally Elon Musk after the duo was spotted dancing together on New Year's Eve. The American tennis legend is known for her outspoken criticism of Trump and Musk.
During Trump's New Year’s Eve celebration at Mar-a-Lago in Florida, a video of the 78-year-old dancing with Tesla CEO Elon Musk went viral on social media. The clip, shared on X, sparked a caption contest that drew widespread attention.
Navratilova joined in on the fun, sharing her three-word caption.
"Wow- so sexy!!!!" Martina Navratilova wrote.
Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has played a significant role in Trump's 2024 presidential campaign, contributing over $270 million to support the 78-year-old and other Republican candidates.
Following the election triumph, Trump appointed Musk to lead the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), aiming to reduce federal spending. Their partnership sparked discussions about the influence of the tech mogul in governmental roles.
Martina Navratilova questioned Donald Trump following his comments about Elon Musk's potential to be USA's President
Outgoing US President Joe Biden recently signed a funding bill to avert a government shutdown, but it faced fierce opposition from Donald Trump and Elon Musk. Trump criticized the bill for failing to address the debt ceiling, while Musk, using his social media platform X, rallied his 200 million followers to condemn the deal in a series of posts.
Their combined pressure led Republicans to back out of a bipartisan agreement with Democrats, pushing the country to the brink of a government shutdown just before Christmas. An agreement was ultimately reached at the last hour.
Musk's involvement raised concerns about the significant influence of an unelected private citizen. This particularly came into the limelight after he, reportedly, leveraged his platform in the latest Presidential elections. Amid the backlash, Trump addressed the controversy at a Republican conference in Phoenix, Arizona.
"He's [Elon] not going to be president, that I can tell you. I’m safe. You know why? He can’t be, he wasn’t born in this country," Trump said.
Martina Navratilova reacted to Trump’s comment, tweeting:
"So would Trump act differently if Musk had been born in the US??? I mean…"
Musk, born in South Africa, has been politically involved in the USA and seems on the verge of doing so in several other countries. Former World No. 1 Navratilova has expressed hope from citizens of other countries to limit the Tesla CEO's influence.
