Martina Navratilova reacted to a social media user calling a person a 'homophobe' for standing up against men violating women's spaces. Navratilova is regarded as one of the most prominent women's tennis players of her time.
On November 24, a user on X shared a story of how a close friend of theirs stopped talking to them when they raised their voice against men's interference in women's spaces. Having been hit with the realization that women get cut off from their networks, they wrote:
"After years of just being a bit sad over the one good friend who totally ghosted me because I would not be silent about men in women's spaces, I'm suddenly absolutely f***ing furious at the extraordinary moral cowardice and utter cruelty of cutting women off from their networks."
In defense, another X user called them out for being 'transphobic' and 'homophobic', writing:
"Homophobes and transphobes talking about how lonely they are is just so satisfying"
The person who shared their story noted how disappointing it was to see someone deliberately taking jabs at them. Another user on X defended this by explaining why it made no sense to be 'civil' to someone against transgender rights.
"Tolerance is a social contract, and by being a horrendous homophobic b***h you broke it so we don't have to be civil or kind to a******s like you."
The user further called out the person for not valuing solidarity and using arguments against lesbians.
"She is using exactly the same arguments used against lesbians 20 years ago Sorry that the term solidarity means nothing to you."
Martina Navratilova, a vocal critic of allowing transgender athletes in women's sports, also responded. Her post read:
"Bulls***. Being gay or a lesbian and being trans have nothing to do with each other- one is a sexual orientation, the other a gender identity. Try again with your this is same thing bs"
Martina Navratilova lashed out at a publication for referring to women as 'non-transgender women'
Recently, in an article titled 'How a College Volleyball Team Became the Center of the Transgender Athlete Debate' by the New York Times, a line refered to women as 'non-transgender women'.
A user on X wasn't pleased with the term being used in the text and wrote:
"Don’t call us ‘non-transgender women.’ Just stop it. Stop all the offensive terms for us," the caption read.
Chiming in, Martina Navratilova suggested to NYT that just the term 'women' would suffice.
"NYT- you stink. We are women, not NOT TRANSGENDER WOMEN. Just WOMEN will do in the future," she wrote.
Navratilova was also outspoken about her support for Democrat candidate Kamala Harris in the 2024 US Presidential election.
