The duality of Emma Raducanu's performance in Grand Slams was compared to that of Jelena Ostapenko by tennis journalist Ben Rothenberg. Rothenberg also brought up Naomi Osaka's performance in Majors while comparing the two women.

Emma Raducanu rose to fame when she won the U.S. Open as a qualifier in 2021. Since then, her injury struggles have reflected in her results. The Brit has failed to make it past the second round in her next six Majors after her U.S. Open triumph. However, she seems to have found her rhythm at the ongoing Wimbledon Championships, where she has made it to the fourth round. The Brit has defeated the likes of Renata Zararzua, Elise Mertens, and ninth seed Maria Sakkari and is yet to drop a set in the tournament.

Tennis journalist Ben Rothenberg tried to think of other players who had the same duality in results as Emma Raducanu and came up with Jelena Ostapenko, the 27-year-old Latvian player. He shared his opinion on X (formerly Twitter).

"Raducanu’s results are just so bimodal in a way I’m not sure any other player has had? Maybe Ostapenko?"

Ostapenko won the French Open at the age of 20. However, in her 34 Grand Slam appearances, she has made it to the final eight on only five occasions. In the process, she has reached the semifinals once and the quarterfinals thrice.

A fan felt Naomi Osaka could also be put in that bracket of players, even though she has won four Grand Slam titles. Rothenberg seconded her opinion, because apart from her triumphs, the Japanese had never gone past the fourth round in any campaign.

In the ongoing Wimbledon Championships, Ostapenko has made it to the fourth round, whereas Osaka was defeated by 19th seed Emma Navarro in the second round.

Emma Raducanu will play New Zealand's Lulu Sun in the fourth round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. The 23-year-old came through the qualifiers, defeating Gabriela Knutson and Alex Eala.

Sun faced eighth seed Zheng Qinwen in the opening round but stunned the Chinese, staging a comeback from a set down 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. She then staged another remarkable turnaround in the second round against Yulia Starodubtsewa, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. She clinched another resilient 7-6(4), 7-6(6) win against Zhu Lin in the third round to reach the fourth round.

Lulu Sun will next face Raducanu, a player who knows about miraculous runs as a qualifier herself.
