"Me too" - Iga Swiatek jokes about her struggle to see the ball during Cincinnati Open SF loss to Aryna Sabalenka as she reacts to hilarious meme

Recently, while reacting to a hilarious meme, Iga Swiatek humorously addressed her struggles with seeing the ball during her semifinal match against Aryna Sabalenka at the 2024 Cincinnati Open. Swiatek reaching the semifinals of the WTA 1000 hard court was her best performance at the tournament.

Swiatek was the top seed in Cincinnati and she kicked off her campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. She defeated qualifier Varvara Gracheva 6-0, 6-7(8), 6-2, and 15th seed Marta Kostyuk with a score of 6-3, 6-2 in the second and third rounds, respectively.

In the quarterfinals, Iga Swiatek overcame Mirra Andreeva 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, however, her campaign in Cincinnati came to an end in the semifinals when she was defeated by the third seed Aryna Sabalenka with a score of 3-6, 3-6.

Amid the matches in Cincinnati, a meme circulated on social media featuring a photo of Swiatek wearing glasses and squinting, with a caption joking about the challenges of seeing the ball during day matches at the Cincinnati Open.

The World No.1 reacted to the meme, acknowledging that she also struggled to see the ball during her semifinal match against Sabalenka, which might have contributed to her defeat .

"Yeah. Yesterday me too, 🫠 " Swaitek wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Speaking to the press following her loss to Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals of the 2024 Cincinnati Open, Iga Swiatek admitted that her performance during the match was subpar. The World No.1 attributed her defeat to Sabalenka playing to her strengths and her own poor serving at the beginning, which she said disrupted her rhythm.

"I think Aryna was just playing better today and using her advantages and I didn't serve well at the beginning, which kind of threw me off my rhythm. For sure, it wasn't a good performance for me," Swiatek said [via WTATennis.com].

Despite the defeat, Swiatek expressed that she was satisfied with her overall performance throughout the tournament. She said that the lessons she learned from the semifinal loss will help her address her weaknesses before the upcoming 2024 US Open.

"[Overall in the tournament] I played much better than I expected, honestly, especially on this surface. So I'm happy with the result anyway, and already kind of focusing on what I need to do to feel even better in New York. And we'll work on stuff for sure," she added .

Looking ahead, Iga Swiatek will next compete in the 2024 US Open which is scheduled to begin on August 26. The Pole has previously clinched the New York Slam in 2022 when she defeated Ons Jabeur in the final.
