Andy Murray and Naomi Osaka are among the 13 players who have received a main draw wildcard for the upcoming Miami Open.
Murray, who is currently ranked 88th in the world, has entered a number of tournaments this year as a wildcard. He reached the final of the Sydney International in January. After this, he was eliminated in the second round of four tournaments in a row.
The former World No. 1 faced Taro Daniel in the first round of the Indian Wells Masters and beat him 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 to proceed to the second round, where he will face 31st seed Alexander Bublik.
By beating Daniel, Murray registered his 700th career win.
Two-time semifinalist Nick Kyrgios also received a wildcard for the Miami Masters. The Australian suffered a second-round exit at the men's singles tournament at the Australian Open. However, he won the men's doubles crown partnering Thanasi Kokkinakis.
Kyrgios moved into the second round of the Indian Wells Masters after beating Sebastian Baez 6-4, 6-0. He and Kokkinakis are also in the second round of the doubles tournament after beating Marcelo Melo and Ivan Dodig.
Former World No. 1 Naomi Osaka has received a wildcard for the women's singles event in Miami. The Japanese reached the quarterfinals of the tournament last year.
Osaka suffered a dip in form last year and cut her season short after the US Open. The 24-year-old returned to action this year and reached the semifinals of the Melbourne Summer Set 1 before pulling out of the competition due to fitness reasons.
Osaka then reached the third round of the Australian Open and lost to Amanda Anisimova despite having a match point in the third set.
She received a wildcard for the Indian Wells Open and sealed her place in the second round of the competition after beating Sloane Stephens in three sets. The Japanese will now face Veronika Kudermetova.
2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin also received a wildcard for Miami. The American has had a torrid 2022 season so far, suffering first-round exits at the Australian Open, the Dubai Tennis Championships and the Qatar Open, resulting in her dropping to 130th in the WTA rankings.
Kenin also suffered an opening-round exit in Indian Wells at the hands of Beatriz Haddad Maia.
