Mirra Andreeva reached her fourth WTA tour semifinal at the 2025 Brisbane International on Friday (January 3). With this feat, the 17-year-old Russian joined the likes of Coco Gauff and Maria Sharapova in progressing to four or more tour semifinals before the age of 18.
Mirra Andreeva defeated former World No. 2 Ons Jabeur in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Brisbane International. The eighth-seeded Russian mustered a one-set advantage after breaking Jabeur twice in the first set. The Tunisian looked much sharper in the second set and even held two set points to level the scoreline.
However, Andreeva showed calmness to force a tiebreaker and ran away with it against the three-time Grand Slam finalist to win the match 6-4, 7-6 (2). With this win, Andreeva advanced to her fourth semifinal on the WTA tour after the 2024 French Open (semifinalist), 2024 Iasi Open (winner), and 2024 Ningbo Open (runner-up).
In addition, Mirra Andreeva also became the sixth woman in WTA history to reach four or more tour semifinals before their 18th birthday, as per OptaAce. Maria Sharapova is the most illustrious name on this list, winning seven titles (including the 2004 Wimbledon Championship), finishing runner-up twice, and reaching two semifinals before turning 18.
Other names on the list are Czech star Nicole Vaidisova (seven titles and six semifinals), talented Dutchwoman Michaella Krajicek (three titles and three semifinals), American prodigy Coco Gauff (two titles, one runner-up, and one semifinal), and former French star Tatiana Golovin (two runner-up and six semifinals).
Mirra Andreeva to face Aryna Sabalenka in Brisbane International SF
Mirra Andreeva is now set to face off against top seed Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals of the 2025 Brisbane International on January 4. The Russian has so far remained spotless in Brisbane after beating Anna Blinkova, 12th seed Linda Noskova and Ons Jabeur in straight sets.
Meanwhile, the top seed, Aryna Sabalenka, has not dropped a set either, bettering Renata Zarazua, 15th seed Yulia Putintseva, and Marie Bouzkova to reach the last-four stage. The Belarusian, who was runner-up at the Brisbane International in 2024, enjoys a 2-1 head-to-head advantage over Andreeva.
However, the Russian emerged victorious when the duo last faced off in the quarterfinals of the 2024 French Open.
Andreeva is also competing in the doubles category at Brisbane alongside fellow Paris Olympics silver medalist Diana Shnaider. The duo has reached the final of the tournament and will face Priscilla Hon and Anna Kalinskaya.
