Mirra Andreeva took a playful swipe at Daria Kasatkina after the latter's win over the former in the final of the recently-concluded Ningbo Open. The 17-year-old also jokingly 'hoped' that her coach Conchita Martinez, a former World No. 2 and the 1994 Wimbledon champion, wouldn't 'kill her'.

Andreeva and Kasatkina squared off for the Ningbo Open title on Sunday, October 20. It was the vastly more experienced Kasatkina, a former World No. 8, who began the match on the front foot. Eventually, she bageled Andreeva (6-0) in the first set, leaving the 17-year-old with a mountain to climb.

However, astonishingly, the youngster bounced back in the second set, while Kasatkina's level dipped. Andreeva went on to clinch the second set 6-4, taking the match to a decisive third set. In the decider, Kasatkina looked down and out as Andreeva established a commanding 3-0 lead. Remarkably though, the former World No. 8 won five games in a row before eventually wrapping up the set 6-4 and winning the WTA 500 event.

In the aftermath of her loss, Mirra Andreeva took to Instagram and poked fun at Daria Kasatkina.

"Ending my 2024 season with the final in Ningbo! Congrats to this b**ch @kasatkina , you definitely showed some great tennis," Andreeva wrote.

The 17-year-old also playfully apologized to her coach, the legendary Conchita Martinez by jokingly saying that she hoped her coach 'wouldn't kill her'.

"And sorry Conchita hope you don’t kill me," Andreeva added.

While the Instagram post shared by Andreeva was playful and lighthearted, she had a tearful breakdown during her speech following the conclusion of the match. However, Kasatkina rushed to the youngster's side to comfort her.

During the trophy presentation ceremony at the Ningbo Open, Mirra Andreeva was called up to the stage first to take the runner-up trophy and deliver her speech. The 17-year-old went up and stood in front of the microphone, but at this point, she began crying, clearly disappointed at her loss to Daria Kasatkina from a seemingly winning position.

Here, Kasatkina showed her compassionate side by quickly making her way to Andreeva. The two Russians, who share a close relationship, embraced each other as Kasatkina comforted Andreeva with the youngster soon breaking into a smile.

Andreeva's run to the Ningbo Open final has helped her climb two spots in the WTA Tour rankings, and the 17-year-old is the new World No. 17. Meanwhile, Kasatkina's title triumph at the WTA 500 event sees her break back into the top 10, with the Russian currently ranked ninth.
