Martina Navratilova recently called out actor David Tennant over his misogynistic remarks about Kemi Badenoch, the United Kingdom's Minister for Women and Equalities. Tennant made these remarks while receiving the LGBT+ Celebrity Ally award at the British LGBT Awards.

Tennant said in his speech that Badenoch should 'shut up'.

“Until we wake up and Kemi Badenoch doesn’t exist anymore…I don’t wish ill of her I just wish her to shut up,” he said in his speech.

Navratilova called him out for his misogynistic statement and stated that he reeked of male entitlement.

"Wow. The misogyny is in full force!!! Ladies and gentlemen- I give you the perfect example of Male Entitlement… Omg…," Martina Navratilova wrote on X (formerly Twitter)

This isn't the first time that Navratilova has stood up for women's rights. She recently voiced her dismay at the Taliban government of Afghanistan's request to remove women's rights in Afghanistan from the agenda of the next United Nations meeting in Doha, Qatar. The Taliban's request was granted by the UN.

"WTAF, UN!!!!" wrote Navratilova.

Martina Navratilova, along with Chris Evert, were against awarding the WTA Finals to Saudi Arabia and took a stand against it by writing an Opinion piece in The Washington Post. They said that Saudi Arabia's values were in stark contrast to WTA's values, citing the male guardianship law as an example of inequality in Saudi society.

"The WTA’s values sit in stark contrast to those of the proposed host. Not only is this a country where women are not seen as equal, it is a country where the current landscape includes a male guardianship law that essentially makes women the property of men. A country whose long-term record on human rights and basic freedoms has been a matter of international concern for decades," Navratilova and Evert wrote.

Navratilova, along with Evert, also stated that staging the WTA Final in Saudi Arabia would be a step backward, owing to the unequal status of women in Saudi Arabia's Law.

"Staging the WTA final there would represent not progress, but significant regression. The unequal status of women remains deeply embedded in Saudi law, and women who actively protest this injustice risk indefinite imprisonment — for they need a male guardian’s permission to leave prison even after they have served their sentences," they wrote.

Martina Navratilova actively voices her opinion on topics such as transgender sportspersons, politics, and women's rights, among others, on social media.
