Gael Monfils has commented on his shift in priorities as he gets closer to the end of his tennis career. The 38-year-old spoke about regarding his family as his main focus, while announcing that winning the Australian Open or any other Grand Slam is not his goal at this stage of his career.

The Frenchman recently broke Roger Federer's record by winning the ASB Classic, becoming the oldest player to win an ATP Tour title in 50 years. He is now enjoying a strong run at the Australian Open, reaching the round of 16 on the back of three impressive wins.

Monfils welcomed his first daughter alongside Elina Svitolina back in October 2022. Although the couple has been closely connected to the tennis world, their priorities appear to have shifted towards cherishing the moments of life away from the courts.

After his victory over Taylor Fritz in the third round of the Australian Open, Monfils was asked about his priorities in life and whether winning a Grand Slam was still on top of that list.

"Win? No! To be honest with you, it's not even a dream to win the tournament. My dream is to be old and healthy! I tell you my dream is to have an unbelievable family! Tennis, it's cool! Of course, you want a gold dream, whatever. But my dream is out there," Gael Monfils said.

Gael Monfils has now secured his position in the Australian Open round of 16, where he will face Ben Shelton on Monday, January 20.

Elina Svitolina recently took down Jasmine Paolini of Italy to secure her place in the fourth round at Melbourne Park. After her stunning win, the WTA star made a heartfelt comment about her husband, saying that his hard-fought win over Taylor Fritz inspired her in her third round match.

"Well, it was a crazy battle today. I would want to say that I got inspired after my husband’s win. I watched a little bit, of course it was tough to miss it. But to be fair, I played so bad the first set, I don’t know if I was inspired," she said.

Svitolina, seeded 28th, will go up against Veronika Kudermetova in the fourth round of the Australian Open on Sunday, January 19.
