John McEnroe opened up about how Andre Agassi helped him during a tough period in his life in 1992. The two men were part of a dream USA team alongside Pete Sampras and Jim Courier, where McEnroe was struggling with a personal problem.

McEnroe recently appeared on the latest episode of the Served with Andy Roddick podcast on December 17th where Roddick spoke about watching the 1992 Davis Cup final between USA and Switzerland live and how it was a key moment of his childhood.

The 65-year-old thanked Andre Agassi for being there for him when he was separated from his first wife Tatum O'Neal. He acknowledged that it was hard for him to be mentally present at the Davis Cup Finals that year.

"You know our team was me, Andre (Agassi), Jim Courier and Pete Sampras. That was an awesome experience," John McEnroe said. [49:09]
"But I want to thank Andre, because just when I was separated. I didn't know if I could make that tie, and I spent a week or so with him in Vegas. Yeah, just like mentally to try to get there and I brought my whole, my kids and my parents, I brought everybody there because I was really having a tough time in December of 92," he added.

McEnroe then talked about how Agassi had the maturity to deal with children even when he hadn't become a father. He said that his kids adored Agassi:

"Andre, thank you for that. Andre is an extremely intelligent person. He had a quality that's very rare, that is, most people that haven't had kids yet, they don't know how to deal with the kids. They are sort of weird with the kids.
"But Andre, my kids loved Andre. Ah, he was so good with the kids and just knew how to deal with people, and he didn't have to deal with me at that time, and he was just there for me."

Agassi is now a father to two children -- daughter Jaz Elle and son Jaden.

Continuing his thoughts, John McEnroe felt that even without his inclusion, the likes of Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi and Jim Courier were more than capable of winning the Davis Cup but was thankful to be a part of what ended up being his final Davis Cup campaign.

"So, I don't think I would have played. I was really out of it, and they could have won anyway, obviously. You got Courier, Sampras and Agassi, and they would have thrown in another guy. But that meant a lot to me at that particular time because that was the last Davis Cup match I ever played." [50:22]

John McEnroe teamed up with Pete Sampras for his final Davis Cup match, which came in the final against Switzerland. The American duo defeated Jakob Hlasek and Marc Rosset after coming back from a two-set deficit. Courier defeated Hlasek in the following match to clinch USA its 30th Davis Cup title.
