Naomi Osaka has witnessed some unfortunate incidents. She sustained an injury at the ASB Classic and announced a breakup with her long-time boyfriend, Cordae.

The Japanese tennis player commenced her season by competing at the ASB Classic in Auckland and delivered staunch performances in the tournament as she reached the finals, where she squared off against Clara Tauson. However, this match ended in a crossover as Osaka withdrew, citing injury concerns, which led to Tauson lifting the tournament's trophy.

Just days after this, on January 6, Osaka shared she was splitting up with her long-time partner, rapper Cordae, with whom she shares a one-year-old daughter, Shai. She took to her Instagram story and shared a note.

"Hi everyone, just wanted to say that Cordae and I are no longer in a relationship. No bad blood at all, he’s a great person and an awesome dad. Honestly, really glad our paths crossed because my daughter is my biggest blessing and I was able to grow a lot from our experiences together," Naomi Osaka wrote.

Following these incidents, Osaka is now gearing up for the Australian Open and has reached Melbourne. The tennis player shared glimpses of her arrival in Melbourne for the tournament, with videos showcasing the city including one of the Australian Open flags.

Naomi Osaka opens up about her loss at the ASB Classic 2025

Naomi Osaka lost to Clara Tauson in the final round of the ASB Classic as she had to withdraw from the match due to injury. She spoke about the loss in the post-match interview.

"Now that you mention it, I didn’t eat breakfast today so maybe that’s why I should stick to my superstitions. I want to thank everyone for welcoming me to such a beautiful city. I had a lot of fun playing here. I’m really sorry about how it ended. I hope you enjoyed the tennis that we did play, I’m just really grateful to be here," Naomi Osaka said.

Osaka also penned a note on her Instagram post, sharing pictures of her time in Auckland, including exploring the place and her runners-up trophy. The last slide read:

"I've come to the conclusion that what's meant for me is meant for me and maybe certain situations occur to train my mind for what's to come. Maybe there's bigger and better things on my path and I just have to continue the journey to encounter them. That being said this is about to be a great year."

Osaka has won seven titles in her career including two at the US Open (2018, 2020) and Australian Open (2019, 2021).
