Naomi Osaka had fans buzzing on social media with her custom-made Nike outfit and sneakers on her return to the US Open. The Japanese star missed last season's edition due to the birth of her daughter Shai and returned to the WTA tour in January 2024.
On Tuesday, Osaka kicked off her 2024 US Open campaign by defeating 10th-seed Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 6-2.
Since ending a four-year stint with Adidas in 2019, the four-time Grand Slam winner has been in partnership with Nike. All eyes were on Naomi Osaka as she walked into the Louis Armstrong Stadium, wearing a white shirt with a huge lemon-green bow tie at the back, paired with a matching lemon-green pleated skirt.
The former World No. 1 also sported white sneakers featuring the iconic Nike swoosh in lemon green, complete with a bow tie-like ribbon at the back of the sneakers.

At a press conference after the match, Naomi Osaka said she and American fashion designer Yoon Ahn had been working on the project for a while, and she was thrilled to see people's excitement about it.
“Yoon is so nice, She accepted doing this project, and we’ve kind of been talking about it for a few years now. So just to be able to wear it and see it come to life and see that people are excited to see it, yeah, it’s really cool,” Osaka said (via WTA Tour).
Osaka is no stranger to the hard courts of the US Open. In 2018, she won her first Grand Slam title by defeating American legend Serena Williams in the final. In 2020, she claimed her second US Open title by beating Victoria Azarenka in the final.
Naomi Osaka to face Karolína Muchová in US Open 2024 R2
Following her first-round victory over Jelena Ostapenko, Naomi Osaka will face Karolína Muchová in the second round of the 2024 US Open.
This season, Osaka has recorded 19 wins and 15 losses on the WTA tour. She could not advance beyond the second round at the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon.
Her opponent Karolína Muchová secured her place in the second round by defeating Katie Volynets 6-3, 7-5. Muchová made her US Open debut in 2018 and her best performance came last season when she reached the semifinals where eventual champion Coco Gauff beat her.
Muchová underwent surgery in February and returned to action in June at the Eastbourne International. Since her comeback, her best result has been reaching the Palermo Ladies Open final where she was defeated by Qinwen Zheng.
Muchová and Osaka have faced each other twice on the WTA Tour. The first encounter came at the 2020 Cincinnati Open where Osaka emerged victorious. The second match saw Muchová get her revenge by defeating Osaka in the second round of the 2021 Madrid Open.
