Naomi Osaka enjoys downtime in snowy New York, shares adorable glimpse of daughter Shai in post-Australian Open photodump

Naomi Osaka recently shared photos which showed how she spent time in snowy New York after the conclusion of her run at the 2025 Australian Open. Osaka's photo-dump included an endearing glimpse of her daughter, Shai.

At this year's Melbourne Major, Osaka kicked off her campaign by triumphing over Caroline Garcia 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the first round. She then defeated 20th seed Karolina Muchova 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 in the second round.

However, the two-time Australian Open champion's journey at the Grand Slam tournament came to an abrupt halt in the third round against Belinda Bencic. She was forced to retire from the match after the first set due to a strained abdominal muscle.

Following her campaign in Melbourne, Naomi Osaka jetted off to New York. She recently took to social media to share a series of pictures capturing her downtime at the Big Apple. Among the photos was one that showed Osaka and her daughter's hands side by side.

Naomi Osaka gave birth to her daughter Shai in July 2023, and returned to the court in 2024 at the Brisbane International. Last year, Osaka's best results were reaching the quarterfinals at the Qatar Open and the Libema Open, where she was defeated by Karolina Pliskova and Bianca Andreescu respectively.

This year, before beginning her campaign at the Australian Open, Osaka competed at the ASB Classic, where she defeated Lina Glushko, Julia Grabher, Hailey Baptiste and Alycia Parks to secure a spot in the final against Clara Tauson. She won the first set 6-4 in the championship match against the Dane, before retiring due to an abdominal injury.

Naomi Osaka: “I want to be a good role model for my daughter"

Last year, during a press conference, Naomi Osaka talked about how her perspective has shifted since becoming a mother to Shai. She said she has a newfound awareness of the children in the stadiums where she competes, and also that she sees the kids a bit "differently" since Shai was born.

“I was more aware of kids. It made me, like, feel... I don't know . I see them differently now because now I'm a mom, too and I can picture Shai being that age," Osaka said.

The former World No.1 further stated that she wants to set a positive example for Shai and be a "role model" for her.

"Yeah, I think while I'm playing, I'm aware of it in the sense that I want to be a good role model for my daughter . Other than that, I think I'm pretty much trying to be the same old me," she added.

Naomi Osaka is next expected to compete at the 2025 Qatar Open, which is scheduled to take place from February 9 to February 15 at the International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha, Qatar.

Osaka first participated in the Qatar Open in 2018, where she reached the second round before being defeated by Anastasija Sevastova.
