Naomi Osaka receives special gift after donning 'sunflower-themed' Australian Open outfit

Naomi Osaka is embracing a "sunny theme" at this year's Australian Open, and as part of the vibe, she received a thoughtful gift from a "kind gentleman." The Japanese player is also enjoying a strong run in Melbourne, reaching the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time since becoming a mother.

Taking to her Instagram Story, Osaka showed off a sunflower made out of LEGO. The detailing was neat and it was a very thoughtful gift. She captioned the image:

"A really kind gentleman gave me this today."

The gift coincides with her theme for the Slam. Following her 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 first-round win over Caroline Garcia a few days ago, she opened up about a "sunny theme."

"The Australian Open's the happy Slam, so I thought it was really fitting for it to have a sunny theme," Naomi Osaka noted (via WTA). "Every Slam this year will have a flower theme shoe... I think that's really cute."

The two-time Australian Open champion embraced a sunny theme at the ongoing event, incorporating sunflower motifs into her outfit. She wore a black and gray Nike kit, accented by pops of color. Her debut footwear, the Nike Women’s Osaka GP Challenge 1 PRM Tennis Shoes, featured sunflower details, complemented by sunflower clips in her hair and earrings.

Naomi Osaka defeated strong opponents Caroline Garcia and Karolina Muchova in the first and second rounds of the 2025 Australian Open, respectively. In the third round, she has been pegged against Belinda Bencic.

The commonality between the pair is that they are mothers to daughters. Osaka gave birth to her daughter Shai in July 2023 while Bencic gave birth to her daughter Bella in April 2024.

During her on-court interview after defeating Muchova, Osaka was asked if she had given any advice to her next opponent Bencic about returning to tour as a mother.

"Oh she doesn't want advice from me, I promise. No, I haven't really bumped into her. It's weird, when you're at a Slam you don't really see people when you expect them but I guess I'll see her on the other side of the court," Osaka said.

This will be the sixth encounter between the pair with Bencic leading the head-to-head 3-2. Their last encounter was a semifinal victory for Osaka in Miami in 2022.
