Days after her heartbreaking injury-forced exit from the Australian Open, Naomi Osaka donned a chic black outfit to enjoy a snowy day in New York. Her Australian Open campaign ended prematurely as she was forced to retire mid-way through her third-round match against Belinda Bencic.

Osaka was leading 5-2 when she called for a medical timeout due to abdominal pains. The injury took a toll on her as Bencic fought her way back into the contest and the set was decided on a tie-break, which the Japanese lost.

The four-time Grand Slam winner signaled she could not continue the match and conceded the walkover. Three days later, on Monday, Osaka took to social media, posting pictures of the New York snow on her Instagram stories. She shared two pictures: one of herself wearing a chic black outfit and the other of the snow.

In the second picture, the Japanese, who was brought up in the USA, added a location tag to New York and added the caption:

Osaka's third-round appearance at the Australian Open was her best since she made a comeback to the Tour in 2024. She had taken a year off the circuit after giving birth to her daughter in 2023.

Naomi Osaka's abdomen injury resurfaces at Australian Major

Naomi Osaka began her 2025 season at the ASB Classic in Auckland, where she reached the final. However, despite winning the first set 6-4 against Clara Tauson, she was forced to withdraw from the contest due to an abdominal strain. This was her first final since 2022, and the injury held her back from the title.

The same injury came back to trouble her at the Australian Major as well. Osaka played two tough three-setters in her opening two matches and looked in good form before the abdomen injury flared up in the third round.

Acknowledging her fans for always showing up to support her, Osaka penned down a heartfelt post on Instagram, writing:

"Walking on the court today I saw a girl with a bouquet of sunflowers. It was then that I was again reminded that I will never be able to repay the love that is constantly shown. Thank you for inspiring me, thank you for believing in me."

The World No. 51 will look to take some time off the court and fully recover from the abdomen injury as she charts her comeback to the circuit.
