Victoria Azarenka interacted with the media at the 2023 Dubai Tennis Championships, where she spoke about the future that she envisions for the sport.
In a video clip from the press conference posted on social media, the two-time Grand Slam champion hoped that the prestigious WTA Finals would find a "deserving home" after the last two editions were held in Guadalajara, Mexico, and Fort Worth, Texas.
She believes that the WTA flagship event could have drawn a bigger crowd both times had the organizers announced the dates well in advance and marketed the event better.
Tennis fans took to social media in agreement with Azarenka. Some suggested that with her ideas, she would even be a good fit for a position in the WTA.
"Pls I need her to take an executive position in WTA after she retires," posted a fan.
Another fan called out for changes in the WTA, including their marketing and public relations strategies.
"So true! Btw, not only better marketing for the Finals, the whole WTA needs some serious upgrade in PR, social media presence, etc. Their website is awful as well," a tweet read.
One user wanted the event to return to Guadalajara and urged the WTA to work harder at recruiting sponsors.
"Glad to hear her say what I have been thinking all along! Marketing ahead of time. Hope they go back to Guadalajara! Fans loved it. No way can they go to China with the latest tensions. WTA president needs to be stronger at recruiting sponsors!" a fan opined.
