Nick Kyrgios recently made a fun attempt to take the limelight away from Novak Djokovic while discussing their blockbuster partnership at the 2025 Brisbane International. Both men have landed in Brisbane ahead of the tournament's kick-off.
Kyrgios and Djokovic share one of the most notable bromances in the tennis world but they had yet to see how their friendship would translate on the court. However, on December 16, the Aussie made the announcement that he would be teaming up with the Serb for doubles at the Brisbane International leaving the tennis fraternity in a frenzy.
It seems the two men have arrived in Brisbane ahead of their campaigns. Nick Kyrgios was told by the media that Djokovic had expressed his excitement over teaming up with the 29-year-old, to which he hilariously responded:
"Of course he is, yeah. I mean, everyone thinks it's a pleasure playing with him it's actually a pleasure playing with me let's be real."
Continuing his thoughts, the Aussie said he wanted to team up with the 24-time Major champion at least once before either player retired and was delighted that he was blessed with this opportunity in front of his home crowd.
"Yeah, but he's.... nah, look, you know, I think we wanted to play one time at least before either his career ends or mine finishes as well so, to finally do it on my home soil where, you know, I think for the fans whenever you get a team-up like this, it's important that the fans get that because that's what tennis is about. Having two great personalities and trying to have some fun out there."
It is worth noting that Kyrgios and Djokovic weren't always on good terms, with the Aussie calling the Serb 'cringeworthy' in 2019. However, they became close after Kyrgios supported Djokovic during his controversial deportation from Australia in 2022.
Nick Kyrgios has been out of action for more than a year due to various knee and wrist injuries. He will also be competing in singles at the Brisbane International.
Nick Kyrgios will face Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the opening round of the Brisbane International 2025
Nick Kyrgios is one of the most fiercest servers on the tour. Interstingly, on his return to the court, he will be facing another big server, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the opening round.
Though the young Frenchman had a year full of ups and downs last season, he had a breakthrough tournament at the Swiss Indoors in Basel, where he defeated James Duckworth, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov, Holger Rune, and Ben Shelton to clinch the title. This win also helped him break into the Top 30 of the ATP rankings. He also clinched the Lyon Open during the clay swing.
On the other hand, Nick Kyrgios is also confident to make an impact on his return and sent out a bold warning to the rest of the tour ahead of the 2025 season.
