Nick Kyrgios mocked Jannik Sinner after he was trolled for his opening-round loss at the 2025 Brisbane International. The Aussie played Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard but the French rising star ended up winning the nail-biting thriller 7-6(2), (4)6-7, 7-6(3).
Jannik Sinner tested positive for the banned substance Clostebol during the Indian Wells earlier this year. However, after much investigation, the ITIA (International Tennis Integrity Agency) decided that the Italian bore 'No Significant Fault or Verdict) and allowed him to continue playing. Many opposed the leniency shown in the verdict, including Kyrgios.
Nick Kyrgios' expressive manner of showing his disapproval has outraged many fans. The Aussie has targeted the Italian's girlfriend Anna Kalinskaya and also called him 'the Grinch'. One Sinner fan took to X (formerly Twitter) to mock the 29-year-old after he was seen struggling with his recovering wrist during the match.
"Oh bro I spent too much time in the last few months holding my phone interacting with Pavvy G and calling Jannik Sinner a second serve, doper and the grinch."
The former World No. 13 responded to the tweet by targeting the World No. 1.
"Not enough clostebol."
When the fan responded to the Aussie by stating how the Italian's 2024 season made his legacy bigger than his', Kyrgios responded,
"How does it feel that he eclipsed your entire career in less than a year?" the fan questioned.
"How did he do that? 💉😂"
Kyrgios made his highly-anticipated return to the court after being out of action for over a year due to various injuries, including one on the wrist that required the Aussie to have surgery in 2023.
"I have to be outspoken about it" - Nick Kyrgios snaps back at comments dubbing the Aussie 'disrespectful'
During a pre-tournament press conference, Nick Kyrgios responded to many dubbing him as 'disrespectful'. He said that it was Jannik Sinner who was 'disrespectful' for tennis and not him.
"So for me when people are saying that I'm disrespectful to the sport, I think someone like that that has tried to cheat the process, and actually not done it completely on their own merit, is the disrespectful one in my opinion," he said.
The Aussie said that he was willing to be outspoken about the issue since no one else was and stated that he was going to continue.
"But, yeah, I mean, I have to be outspoken about it because I don't think there's enough people that are speaking about it. I think people are trying to sweep it under the rug and saying that about the amount and all this," Kyrgios said.
"I'm not going to shut up about it anyway," he added.
Nick Kyrgios' campaign at the Brisbane International is not yet done. His partnership with Novak Djokovic was off to a flying start in the opening round with a topsy-turvy win over Alexander Earles and Andreas Mies. The duo will face top seeds Nikola Metkic and Michael Venus next.
