Nick Kyrgios opened up about the condition of his wrist injury during a recent Q&A session with his fans. The Aussie's wrist became a topic of discussion among tennis fans when he was seen struggling with it during his opening-round match at the 2025 Brisbane International.

After being out of action for more than a year due to various injuries, Kyrgios made his highly anticipated singles return at the Brisbane International game against Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. The two heavy servers fired aces all over the court but the rising French star ended up proving to be too much for the Aussie who lost (2)6-7, 7-6(4), (3)6-7. Interstingly, he was seen taping up his recovering wrist during the match.

Nick Kyrgios conducted a Q&A session on Instagram where a fan questioned him about the state of his wrist ahead of the 2025 Australian Open.

"How much of an issue is the wrist. Still sweet for AO?," asked the fan.

Kyrgios admitted that his wrist would never be back to its best and his performance rested on his will to compete. He also mentioned how Dominic Thiem and Juan Martin del Potro, two players who struggled with career-threatening wrist injuries, would relate to his struggles.

"My wrist will never be the same. But I can manage it - it all really depends on how much pain I want to deal with. Thiem & Delpo understand my pain. I will do my best - my level is still there!," replied Nick Kyrgios.

Kyrgios underwent wrist surgery in 2023 and has since been recovering to get back to his best.

During his post-match press conference, Nick Kyrgios said that no player has ever tried to return to tennis after suffering an injury of his magnitude.

"Well, I mean, look, I've got six holes in my hand, like I've got six holes in my hand and one in my arm. Yeah, not one tennis player has ever had this surgery and come back and tried to play again," Nick Kyrgios said.

Kyrgios also said that even he doesn't understand how his wrist would feel day after day and is currently just going with the flow.

"It's all really an experimental kind of -- the surgeon, like, yeah, if you ever go back and play at this level again, it's on you guys. I don't really have any protocol of how it's going to be or how it's going to pull up. So me and my physio, we are taking it as it comes. If we can get through a match, we get through a match. How it pulls up tomorrow, I have no idea. It's throbbing like s**t right now."

Nick Kyrgios also competed in the doubles at the Brisbane International alongside Novak Djokovic. However, the duo lost to top seeds Nikola Metkic and Michael Venus in the second round.
